Online Italian lessons
What are online Italian lessons like?
They are not very different from traditional lessons but the teacher and the student are often thousands of kilometres away from each other, which does not affect their ability to communicate effectively in any way. Everybody who has tried it has given positive feedback.
My experience with my own students also confirms the many benefits of this form of learning including the flexibility of the timetable, which means the student and the teacher can agree on a custom made schedule for the student for each week, the support by a qualified professional in the learning process as well as the time and money saved by not having to travel to attend a language course or meet a private tutor. In the meantime, the online Italian lessons are just as efficient, interactive and focus primarily on speaking skills as the goal is to provide students with skills that can be readily used.
What technology and equipment is needed?
A good internet connection is a must and you will also need a microphone and/or headphones, possibly a camera and a communication programme such as Skype, Zoom or Google Meet.
Why are online lessons better than traditional ones?
Its most important benefit is that it is convenient as you can study anywhere so you can save time and money on travel; all you need is a stable internet connection. Although the student and the teacher are not near each other in a physical sense and this may be a concern for some students, I do my best to create a friendly atmosphere and build a good relationship with my students.
What is every lesson like?
In general, we use Italian textbooks (Nuovo Progetto Italiano, Espresso etc.) or resources I personally create for my lessons. I will send you any additional materials in advance, which you can print or open on your computer as you prefer. You will undergo an initial language proficiency assessment and I will personalise the content of each lesson based on your particular needs, your language goals and any previous work completed.
Similarly to my traditional lessons, I never use just one textbook in my classes, I try to vary the content and include different types of exercises and games to prevent the lessons from being too monotonous. The internet is a great source to make the lessons more versatile: there is a wide variety of authentic texts and audio-visual content to improve comprehension and reading skills and we play games and listen to music as part of our classes. The publications we use in the classes are all available on all over the world.
What level of proficiency is expected initially?
There is no expected level: this form of learning is available from beginner to advanced levels, for those who want to take a language exam or want to communicate or for those who want to maintain their level of language proficiency and for everybody who like studying on their own but sometimes need some support.
How can I try an online Italian lesson?
The first lesson is free for everyone to allow potential students to personally experience this form of learning. In the first lesson, we will assess your level of proficiency if you have studied Italian before and if not, we will have a little introduction into Italian. To apply, please write to
